Uttarakhand - the land of gods, the home of Himalayas and truly a paradise on earth, allures everyone from everywhere. It was known as Uttaranchal. Uttarakhand became the 27th state of the Republic of India on November 9, 2000. In January 2007, the name of the state was officially changed from Uttaranchal, its interim name, to Uttarakhand,Uttarakhand is a 'paradise' for nature lover's and adventure sports like river rafting, trekking, paragliding, Corbett jungle Jeep safari, enthusiasts. Mussoorie, the 'Queen of Hills'; Nainital, the 'Lake District'; Almora, the 'Switzerland of India'; Ranikhet, Pithoragarh, Pauri and Munsiyari are just few highlights for the nature lovers.
Holi:The festival of Holi assumes an entirely new color in the state of Haryana and hence a different name is associated with the ‘festival of colors’, known as ‘Dulandi Holi’. Fun and frolic is also redefined in various forms in the festive celebrations here. People greet each other with colors and thus enhance the feeling of harmony due to which happiness prevails. The tradition of breaking pots is celebrated with much gusto here. It is an extreme pleasure watching the human pyramid breaking the pot of buttermilk high up in the street. Diwali:Diwali is celebrated with much enthusiasm in Haryana and is celebrated all over the state in the middle of the month of Kartik. ‘Choti Diwali’ or ‘Small Diwali’ comes first and the religious rites and traditions are celebrated with utmost sincerity and devotion. Rice and sugar are put in vessels with a paisa placed on the top and are given away to Brahmin and girls. It is in the name of the deceased ancestors that the ceremony is performed.
Music is an integral part of the Uttarakhand culture. the calm and serene ambiance of this place surrounded with hills and mountains has inspired many musicians to compose great tones. the scintillating glimpse of streams of rivers, lush green forests and the heavenly beauty of the hilly areas are all the natural components of the folk music over here. they mainly include the spiritual and socio-cultural scenes of the place. some of the popular folk songs are `Mandals`, `panwaras` and somber `khuded`, `thadya` and `jhoda`.these folk songs are composed on the beats and nodes of Dhol, damoun, turri, ransingha, dholki, daur, thali, bhankora and masakbhaja.Although with the upcoming advancement in science and technology, the music in uttarakhand has also gained a lot of changes over the years. many musical legends are associated with this place.meena rana who has released multiple albums in her voice is also known as "Lata Mangeshkar of Uttarakhand"
